Anker Bak is a Danish furniture designer and cabinetmaker who works and experiments with wood. His work reflects a deep-seated wish to solve daily problems and improve people’s lives with dignified and necessary furniture. Anker is equally a designer and storyteller and insists his designs must inspire us in a time when we need new solutions and different stories. Through his holistic vision and empathy for the user, Anker’s work combines tactile materials, organic form and necessary function.

Designing for me is all about observing, contemplating, and drawing to ensure ideas work not only on paper. My designs should solve real problems for real people.

After completing the design, I shift gears from being a 'designer' to working as an cabinetmaker. I use wood as much as possible and handle all stages of the process in my workshop.

Anker Bak's AB019 Wall Desk for Carl Hansen & Søn is one of the nominees for Furniture of the Year 2025. Developed for small homes, the wall-mounted desk uses oak veneer and a simple expression to create a home office with minimal space, while its flat-packed format and easy installation support practical use.
At Ingvard Christensen in Vejle, Anker Bak will speak about the relationship between design, handcraft and human experience. Drawing on his life story, his work with furniture and assistive objects, and encounters with Scandinavian and Japanese craft cultures, he will reflect on how design can connect form, function and purpose. The talk takes place on 22 October 2026.
