Design Talk
At Ingvard Christensen in Vejle, Anker Bak will speak about the relationship between design, handcraft and human experience. Drawing on his life story, his work with furniture and assistive objects, and encounters with Scandinavian and Japanese craft cultures, he will reflect on how design can connect form, function and purpose. The talk takes place on 22 October 2026.

New Design
VÆRDIG, Anker Bak’s rolling crutch, has become part of Designmuseum Danmark’s national collection. Designed in 2014 as his first design, the crutch was developed with his grandmother after hip surgery and is made from moulded plywood, with an elongated foot that rolls across the ground.

Prize
Statens Kunstfond commended Anker Bak during his first solo exhibition, Renewed Dignity, at Officinet in Copenhagen in 2022. The presentation brought design for illness, ageing and death into a domestic setting, with assistive objects such as the Ro coffin and a foldable cane shown alongside familiar furniture.

On the opening day of his exhibition Renewed Dignity at Officinet in Copenhagen, Anker Bak took part in a live recording of the Design Kan podcast. Anker Bak presented his first solo exhibition, Renewed Dignity, at Officinet in Copenhagen from 29 September to 23 October 2022. The exhibition brought together furniture and assistive objects related to illness, ageing and death, including the Ro coffin and a foldable cane, and considered how these subjects can form part of everyday design.
Prize
Anker Bak won the Nyt i Bo anno 2019 design prize with SNILD, a wooden sitting cane that unfolds into a stool. The award came through a recognised Danish design competition organised by the furniture house Nyt i Bo. Developed with Vibeke and Karen, SNILD combines walking support with a place to sit when needed.

At the 2017 Design Awards, Anker Bak was nominated for Furniture of the Year with the Rocking Nest Chair. Designed by Anker Bak and produced by Carl Hansen & Søn, the chair was created for his sister to sit comfortably with her child and fold the chair away when it was not in use.

Process
Carl Hansen & Søn launched Anker Bak’s Rocking Nest Chair at Salone del Mobile in Milan from 4 to 9 April 2017. The chair was presented as part of a new product collection alongside designs by Hans J. Wegner, Poul Kjærholm, Ole Wanscher and Naja Utzon Popov.
New Design
Produced by Carl Hansen & Søn, the Rocking Nest Chair reflects Anker Bak’s approach to meaningful design, where actual needs, thoughtful function, good materials and craftsmanship guide the work. Made in oak or walnut with a leather or canvas shell, the chair folds away easily and brings a welcoming place for rest into a compact form.
