Anker says about VÆRDIG
“VÆRDIG is the very first design I ever made back in 2014. After my grandmother Maren Birgitte had hip surgery, she lost her balance and needed support to walk. But she felt ashamed to show herself outside the house using her standard industry walker. She thought it degraded her, so she stopped going out as much.

Together we set out to design a new form of crutch that would give her the dignity she desired and enough security to postpone using “the ugly plastic walker,” as she called it.

It became a personal design process for me, and I spent many hours around the dining room table at my grandparents’ place, developing and drawing.

Ultimately the process set me on the path I’m still following today designing furniture and products that people need.”

Anker made the prototype from molded plywood, ensuring that the crutch lands in the lightweight category below 1kg.

The smooth rolling effect of the elongated foot combined with the subtly shock absorption makes for a smoother crutch that is gentle on hands and wrists and adds stability on uneven surfaces where other crutches struggle with grip.

VÆRDIG is inspired by Charles Eames’ Leg Splint and the work the British wartime designer did to pioneer the moulding of plywood and all its potential possibilities.

VÆRDIG’s simple and organic aesthetic gives it a calm and iconic personality that outshines other crutches. It is a considerate helper and a piece of Everyday Assistive Furniture (EAF) anyone can use with pride.
